1) Develop the strategy.
2) Translate the strategic objectives into specific targets and initiatives.
3) Align the organization with the strategy so that all the employees understand and support it.
4) Link your strategy to the most critical operational activities, including planning and budgeting.
5) Monitor performance according to the Balanced Scorecard metrics.
6) Adapt the strategy in accordance to new information like emerging opportunities, performance shortfalls, or regulatory and competitive changes.

According to the Gartner Magic Quadrant report from April 2017, there are no tools existing on the market that support all of the EPM process steps. Some of the functionality is provided by the Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. Some is provided by the budgeting and planning applications.
